ARBC Staff: Minstry Team

In the Beginning:

Avenue Road Baptist Church serves a congregation of between 150-200 in the city of Cambridge, Ontario.  Although Avenue Road Baptist has changed over the years, it's roots can be found back as far as the late 19th century.      - more history

Where we're going:

Avenue Road has gone through several major changes, as we collectively took the opportunity to re-examine ourselves and our mission.  In the process of re-discovering who we are, identifying the people we serve, and our reason for existing, we came to a deeper understanding of the vision for ministry at Avenue Road.  It is our belief that God bestows gifts of the Holy Spirit, and empowerment for service to all believers.  As our ministry has progressed, God has  brought a variety of unique gifts to enrich our ministry as we fulfill our vision:

As the people of Avenue Road Baptist Church, we exist to declare the reign of God in Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, living God's love:

        • in word,
        • in worship,
        • in service,
        • in community.

As our ministry has evolved over the years, so have the faces of those who have publicly represented the many who serve and worship behind the scenes at Avenue Road.

Team Bio:

Pastor Mark:     Transition Pastor

personel bio pic Pastor Mark's wide-ranging background provides depth to his role as our transition pastor.  He's guiding us over the next year or so while we plan and give to God our dreams for the future.  Mark has been a college president, a professor of ethics and theology, a pastor, a counsellor, a consultant, and has worked with the handicapped and marginalized.  His personal motto is:  "Work hard, have fun, love and serve God" and he invites you to come and share a coffee or just a chat.

Lucas Jervis:     Youth Ministry

personel bio pic Though young, Pastor Lucas is a veteran of the youth world, having been working in youth ministry for 9 years and brings with him a wide variety of youth cultures: from inner city to rural farm ministry.  Currently in the final phase of receiving his Bachelor of Theology, Lucas' passion for youth keeps him driven in his work with young adults, and kids of all ages.  He has a love for sports and adventures of all kinds, but would also happily sit down over a coffee, and get to know you.

Jim Kropf:        Music Director

personel bio pic Jim brings his musical gifts to Avenue Road from his professional career as a music teacher at Hespeler Public School in Waterloo Region, his leadership of the internationally-travelled Cambridge Kiwanis Boys Choir, and prior directorates of choral music from the Anglican Church.  Jim currently leads the choir and congregation in weekly worship, and oversees musical direction at Avenue Road.

Murray Jull:      Organist/Pianist

"The Bible makes abundantly clear, again and again ... that God uses the most messed-up, flawed, not-good-enough
people to do His will ... , because messed-up, flawed, not-good-enough people are all He has to choose from."
